INTRODUCTION

Bladder weakness (or Incontinence) affects a surprisingly large percentage of women around the world.
In Australia the generally accepted number is “1 in 5”.

Contributory factors can include childbirth (1 in 3 women who have had a baby will experience incontinence at some point), obesity, lack of exercise (in particular, weak pelvic floor muscles), menopause and the ageing process.
There are many medical specialists who can advise and assist those suffering with incontinence.
Visiting your GP is always a good start, but beyond that there are specialist Continence Nurses who generally operate from clinics in the community, as well as specialist Physiotherapists – and others.
In Australia there is also a great resource in The National Continence Helpline, a free service staffed by Continence Nurses able to answer a wide range of questions (just call 1800 33 00 66)

Many specially designed ‘absorbent’ products are also available these days, to help ‘self manage’ the challenges of bladder weakness.
You may well have seen rows of bladder weakness liners and pads in Pharmacies or at the Supermarket, or you may know of a specialist who home delivers them.

But we know it can all be a bit confronting and daunting – Who is it best to talk to? What products are best for me? What should I do?

This website aims to try and help you through the maze. To give you pointers about who you can talk to for more information and assistance and to explain why our unique liners and pads, Comforts by Cottons, might be worth trying.

So feel free to browse the site – click on links – but also ask questions if you want more information. We’re happy to try and help.
